Tell us something about yourself

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Bhavana was studious as a child. She completed her degree in engineering from the University of Mumbai and M Tech from the venerable IIT Roorkee. In fact, went on to top her batch that year.

She likes to call herself a die-hard techie and loves programming. While working with technology start-ups like Komli Media, Snapstick and, she gained extensive expertise in designing and executing scalable tech solutions ranging from the website to the mobile apps. She specializes in building high-performance applications.

After working in the corporate set up for about a decade, Bhavana finally launched “” in August 2015.


How did you decide to start your venture – StitchMyFit?

Bhavana recalls a time when she had to attend a wedding in the family but was not finding time from her busy schedule to visit a mall or to run to a tailor. There was an absence of someone who could provide a doorstep tailoring service with customizable fitting. She soon recognized that there existed a potential market that needed to be tapped. With encouragement from her husband and immediate family, she went on to start her venture “Stitch My”.

Having worked with various tech startups, her corporate experience came in handy. She had exposure into varied segments of business like retail, operations, supply chain and sales. This helped her blend-in these elements well while designing the website for

Initially, some 20 odd designs were uploaded to her site. All the base raw material was procured and tailors were carefully on boarded. The business model was, once the client logs in and selects a design,  a trained stylist would visit the clients place, take measurements and pass it on to the tailor. Once ready, the same would get delivered back to the client. The end idea was to have a hassle freseamlessss customer experience where they do not have to run from pillar to post to get a proper dress stitched for themselves and as importantly, have it ready in time.

The idea was well received and since then there has not been any looking back for her.

What are the key challenges you face in your job?

The challenge is to manage sudden spikes in demand, especially during the festive season. Bhavana now has a dedicated workshop to fill in this need.

Apart from the in-house catalog, has now emerged as a platform that bridges the gap between various boutiques and designers on one hand and potential customers on the other hand. For instance, a customer in Colaba can get a designer lehenga stitched from a boutique based in Navi Mumbai, without having to step out of the home! Yes, the convenience the service provides is revolutionary to say the least.

Matching up to customer expectation is another challenge. Clients expect a designer like service and want everything from fit to finish to design impeccable along with delivery to their doorstep with clockwork precision.

Bhavana says “Each day brings in new challenges; the trick is never to repeat the same mistake again.” Her mantra clearly is to keep learning and keep moving forward.



What keeps you going?

While the whole journey of entrepreneurship is challenging, she takes pride in doing something which adds value to the designers, boutiques, and customers at the same time. She feels driven to fill in the market need.

The faith in her venture is her biggest motivator.  It drives her every day, to push her limits, come up with ideas and do more.  (This, by the way, is one classic necessity of being a successful entrepreneur – having faith in your concept.)



How do you see yourself evolve going forward?

Bhavana is keen on scaling up the business further and expand to other cities in India as well. She continues to onboard designers, boutiques, tailors and stylists to offer a wider choice and variety to its expanding client base.



What is one advice you have for anyone else wanting to start their own business venture?

According to Bhavana “You never know your limits until you push them.” She urges women to come forward and do more outside of the household in their lives. Not only does your horizon of thoughts expand, you go out there and earn respect for yourself. It is the most fulfilling thing to do in one’s life.
